# People

Each person record stores contact information, communication preferences, event participation details, and any custom information your team chooses to track.

A person record can include:

* First and last name
* Mobile phone number
* SMS subscription status
* Arrival and departure dates
* Custom properties and attributes
* Visibility and participation settings

People can belong to one or more lists, receive broadcast messages, view personalized schedules, respond to session RSVPs, and interact with your event through SMS and other channels.

## Adding People

There are several ways to add people to an event.

### Add Individually

From the **People** section, team members can manually create a person record by entering their information directly.

### Import from a Spreadsheet

For larger groups, people can be imported in bulk using a CSV file.

The import process guides you through:

1. Uploading a file
2. Mapping spreadsheet columns
3. Reviewing a preview
4. Completing the import

During import, the platform can also automatically place people into lists based on the data provided.

### Guest Sign-Up

People can add themselves through guest registration or subscription flows. Depending on event settings, they may automatically be subscribed to receive communications.

### SMS Keywords

Guests can join by texting a keyword. If the sender does not already exist in the event, a new person record is automatically created and added to the appropriate audience.

### External Integrations

People can also be imported from supported event platforms and integrations.

## Editing People

Team members can update a person's information at any time.

Common updates include:

* Name changes
* Phone number updates
* Arrival and departure dates
* Custom properties
* Visibility settings

Changes take effect immediately throughout the platform, including broadcasts, schedules, and audience targeting.

## SMS Subscription Management

The platform tracks SMS subscription status for every person.

### Unsubscribing

A person may be unsubscribed when:

* A team member manually unsubscribes them
* They reply STOP to a text message
* A system process updates their communication preferences

Once unsubscribed, the person will no longer receive SMS communications.

### Resubscribing

People who were manually unsubscribed may be resubscribed by a team member when appropriate.

For compliance reasons, people who unsubscribe by replying STOP must provide renewed consent before receiving messages again.

Subscription status also affects audience targeting and membership in certain automatically managed lists.

## Archiving People

When a person is no longer relevant to an event, they can be archived.

Archiving removes the person from active audiences and messaging while preserving historical information for reporting and audit purposes.

Archived people:

* No longer count toward list sizes
* Do not receive broadcasts
* Are excluded from active event communications

## Lists and People

Lists are the primary way to organize and target groups of people.

Team members can:

* Add people to lists
* Remove people from lists
* Create new lists
* Manage audience segments

People can belong to multiple lists at the same time.

The platform also maintains certain lists automatically, such as the **All** list, which represents active, subscribed participants.

## Broadcasts and People

Broadcasts use lists to determine who receives a message.

A person may receive a broadcast because they belong to one or more targeted lists.

Team members can also send messages to a specific set of selected people without creating a permanent list.

Individual people can be excluded from a broadcast even if they belong to a targeted audience.

## Sessions and People

People can be included in session audiences in several ways:

* Through list membership
* Through direct assignment
* Through targeted attendee groups

Sessions can also hide specific people from an otherwise eligible audience.

For RSVP-enabled sessions, attendee responses automatically update attendance tracking and audience membership.

## Additional Actions

The platform supports a variety of additional actions related to people, including:

* Reassigning people to another team member
* Managing communication permissions
* Controlling directory visibility
* Initiating event-related calls
* Updating custom event data

These tools help event teams maintain accurate attendee information and deliver personalized communications throughout the event experience.

## Summary

Every communication, list, session audience, RSVP, and personalized experience is built around the people associated with an event. By keeping person records accurate and up to date, event teams can ensure communications reach the right audience at the right time.
